The Sunshine Home is located in Jalan Templer, Petaling Jaya, near Assunta Girl's School. The Sunshine Home is an old folks home which true to it's nam, hands the old folks a bit of sunshine in their lives . Their friendly workers try their best to be like sons and daughters to them, feeding them, helping them and spending as much time with them as possible.

The impressive facilities in this home are more than satisfactory, with 19 beds and a choice of either a single room, or a bigger double room. The upstairs living room is also equipped with Astro for those old folks that enjoy catching dramas or the news. Showers with water heaters are also part of this home and all rooms are air conditioned. For their safety, there are bed-side call panels in case of emergencies. Physiotherapy is also provided if needed.

The home itself is a white, two story bungalow with ample lawn space for outdoor activities. The Sunshine Home Petaling Jaya’s goal is to build a lift so that it will be easier for the old folks and they will not need to climb stairs as their branch in Penang already has a lift.

The staff there said that the old folks that stay there normally come to them sad and silent, which is understandable as they probably feel abandoned by their children or because they are lonely and the staff there try to be as much of a family to them as they can. Homes like these that don't give the sense that they are in a special home but instead make the atmosphere cosy and comfortable like a real home by giving these old folks a ray of sunshine in their lives.

Shelter is a registered welfare organization. It has been in existence since 1981 to help abused, abandoned, neglected or at-risk children. Shelter Home for Children was started by a group of seven friends who wanted to help the children in a squatter settlement along Old Klang Road. The group decided to rent a single storey bungalow in Section 12, Petaling Jaya and decided to bring one of the families from the settlement who had been evicted from their house to stay in the house in Section 12.

Shelter established 10 kindergartens, the first one being in Damansara Dalam (1989). Shelter then, decided to close down the kindergarten after 15 years of operation because they noticed a dramatic drop in the number of students attending their kindergarten. They decided to move into a more dramatic approach in helping disadvantaged children by being a positive influence on teenagers.

Now, they have set-up a youth community centre called Drop Zone. This is place for teenagers to hang out, where the purpose is on the personal development of youths aged 13-20 through healthy and positive activities.

Due to certain conditions, Shelter decided to set up Shelter 2 in 1987, Shelter 3 in 1995, Shelter 4 (1996) and later, Shelter 5 (2001). Each 5 Shelters has their different purposes. Shelter 1 is a home for children from 4 to 12 years of age who has been abused, neglected, at-risk or abandoned by their families, parents or guardians. Shelter 2 is a home for teenage girls aged from 13 to 18 years. It is located in Kuala Lumpur. Teenage boys aged from 13 to 18 are placed in Shelter 3.

OrphanCARE

OrphanCARE is a non-profit non-governmental organization whose objective is to give orphans and abandoned babies in Malaysia the love, care and security of a family in line with their tagline ‘Every Child Needs a Family'. Registered on April 28th 2008, OrphanCARE was launched a year later on April 25th, 2009 by its Patron HRH Sultanah Pahang Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom. OrphanCARE aims to help change society's mindset towards orphans, recognizing that children should not be left permanently in orphanages which should really only be 'transit points' before they are placed with families who can bring them up in a proper family structure.

OrphanCARE aims to work with the government to expedite the adoption process whereby abandoned and orphaned babies are placed with suitable parents. They plan to set up a Baby Hatch on OrphanCARE’s premises where mothers must be allowed to leave their babies without fear of prosecution.

OrphanCARE has the support of the Ministry of Women, Family & Community Development and is in fact working closely with the Ministry. The Ministry will shortly establish a Task Force to review and update the Adoption Acts, Registration Act etc and has invited OrphanCARE to be part of the task force. OrphanCARE also intends to work with other Government departments, NGOs, the media and members of the public towards achieving the above-mentioned objectives.

One of their main events were accompaning Jermaine Jackson, the famous pop singer and his wife during his visit to Asrama Damai Anak-Anak Yatim Kuang in Rawang, Selangor. They spent a few hours chatting heartily to the children.

In conclusion, OrphanCARE is not an orphanage but it is a transit centre for orphans and abandoned children before their adoption. They have about 100 volunteers and would like more. Anybody is able to donate. By opening this nursing home is to provide a conduave and safe alternative to prolonged hospital stay.

Golden Age Nursing Home is a high standard of care at affordable cost effective rates.They have good and comfortable facilities such as van as transport to hospital appoiments and a 24 hours ambulance services in case of any emergencies.

This nursing home is clearly unique by its hospital layout design. There are nurses' stations at each hallway.There are 3 types of rooms which are private rooms, semi-private, and 4 or 5 beds per room. Personal lockers, emergency call bell and telephone also are provided. They also enable placement of a nurse monitoring station outside the room to provide closer monitoring if needed.

There are 3 categories of services which are basic, complimentary and additional. Basic service requires 24 hour nursing care, health education and monitoring of patients' medical condition. Complimentary service such as haircut, foot massages, yoga and Taichi are done. For additional service, they require special care for patients in coma or stroke and hospital visits. We estimated that mostly Chinese people stays at the nursing home.

Impressive Care home

Impressive care home is a home for the elderly. The home was established for the elderly that needs intensive care. It is located at No14, Jalan Datuk Manteri Selatan,Selangor Darul Ehsan. The person who established the home is Mr.Faizal. He had been in this buisness for about 10 years since the year of 2000.

There are 12 rooms in the house .Each room has different numbers of bed. There are 30 bed there in total. The patients there are helped by 10 employees. Each employee is incharge of a room. They attend to the patient`s every need.

Nurses from University Hospital are employed to take care of the patient`s medications and monitor their blood preasure , sugar level and such. The working schedule depends on their shifts in the hospital. Every two weeks, a doctor comes to do a full medical assessment on the patients.

There are many facilities at the Impressive Care home .Some of them are ambulance aid ,toiletries, and meals every 4 times a day according to the ability of the patient to eat. This home is fully air - conditioned. Here, the patients are given morning excercise like breath walking, and they even play games like Poker and Mah-Jong.

What is Rumah Solehah?

          Rumah Solehah is a home that provides shelter and protection for women and children who were both infected or affected by HIV/AIDS who were neglected and homeless. It was established in June 1978 under the auspices of the Ministry of Heats, STD/AIDS Department . The Ministry had assigned an NGO to oversee the home, which is named as the Islamic Medical Association of Malaysia which is also affliated to the Malaysian Aids Council.

          The home is currently run by a women who is Puan Wan who manages the home on a full time basis. Each year, they will send an application to the Ministry for allowence for the home. Unfortunately, according to Puan Wan, the yearly allowence which is about RM 50 000 per year is not enough for the expenses incurred by the residents. To overcome this problem, the whole home would raise funds and to source sponsorship particulary for vitamin supplements and diapers for the children, which can be very expensive.

          A variety of supplements is crucial for the residents to stay healthy. There are 7 women living there, out of which 6 are HIV positive patients. Some are alone and some have children in the home. What is certain is they have been rejected by their own families, regardless of how they were inflicted with the HIV virus in the first place.

          There are 12 children raging from 1-7 years. There are 9 who are confirmed HIV positive, and 3 who are negative. The liveliness of the children belies their background, whereby some of them were abandoned at birth and some whose parents have passed away because of AIDS. The residents of this home are all Muslim.

          A resident of the home has made significant contributions in HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns throughout Malaysia by sharing with the public her struggles and acheivements as a HIV positive patieny. This woman has been with Rumah Solehah for the past 10 years, and now is 49 years old. She is still healthy and very active.

Most of the teenage boys between the ages of 13 and 18 at shelter are among the weakest students in their schools because of their backgrounds of abuse or neglect.
We have full-time staff to run the home on a shift basis to ensure the smooth running of the home. There are a good number of volunteers who help out faithfully on a regular basis. We greatly appreciate and value their time spent with our boys.

It has always been Shelter's hope to have a home of its own. In the past the children had to move from place to place each time the lease on the home expired. Children, especially those from difficult backgrounds, need stability and consistency in their lives. They need to be able to integrate and form good friendships with people in the neighbourhood and in their schools. Thus, Shelter decided to ensure a permanent home by purchasing a property although it would be a financial strain on Shelter.

In 2005, the dream of having our own home materialised and Shelter 3 finally moved to a permanent home in Section 8, Petaling Jaya. At this time we also combined Shelter 5 (teenage boys) and Shelter 3 so that there would be consistency in the way the boys were brought up.

History and Development

Shelter Home for Children started as a result of the vision of a group of seven friends who wanted to help the children in a squatter settlement along Old Klang Road. They initiated tuition classes so that the children could do better in their studies.

When the group found three homeless boys sleeping in the corridors of the State Cinema (now Lotus Restaurant, at New Town, Petaling Jaya) the group decided to rent a single storey bungalow in Section 12, Petaling Jaya. "All that we had was an empty house without any furniture. We sat, ate and slept on the floor. But, in the end, the boys stole some money and ran away!" said Mr James Nayagam, Executive Director of Shelter, one of the seven friends who started Shelter.

Not disheartened, the group of friends decided to bring one of the families from the settlement who had been evicted from their house, to stay in the house in Section 12. Most families in the settlement were living on rented premises but found it difficult to pay the rent.

As numbers in the home increased, we moved to our present premises at Jalan Tinggi, Petaling Jaya. Various groups helped by providing tuition and even fostered those in need of foster care placement.

In time, Shelter established 10 kindergartens in squatter settlements with the first one being in Damansara Dalam (1989). A nominal fee of RM5 was charged per student. These kindergartens were an effort in helping children from underprivileged homes to have a good start in life. Shelter decided to close down the kindergartens after 15 years of operation when we noticed a dramatic drop in the number of children attending our kindergartens - urban affluence had also affected low income families in their perception and preferences for education for their children.

As Shelter evaluated the work, we decided to move into a more proactive approach in helping disadvantaged children by being a positive influence on teenagers.

We have also ventured into community youth work among young prisoners in Kajang Prison. There are about 1,000 delinquents in Kajang Prison and Sg. Buloh Prison. We hope to educate, train and help the juveniles to regain their self-respect and integrity so that they can rejoin society at a later date. This is very gratifying work as it requires discipline, commitment and focus to run the social work programmes.

We have also set-up a youth community centre (DropZone). This is a centre for youths to hang out where the focus is on the personal development of youths through healthy and positive activities. The target group is 13 - 20 years old.

For the homes, we saw the need for helping teenagers who were beyond parental control. This led to the setting up of Shelter 2 (1987), Shelter 3 (1995), Shelter 4 (1996-2007), Home Parenting Scheme - which is now known as Shelter 4 (2007) and Shelter 5 (2001-2006).

Youth Centre (DropZone)

DropZone is a youth community centre project which aims to develop a membership youth centre, taking after the concept of a second-home, which runs youth related activities in the hope that it becomes a healthy hangout alternative that focuses on the personal development of youth. It seeks to respond to the positive qualities of young people in recognition of their role and contribution to nation building.
It is a drop-in centre to help keep youths from engaging in undesirable activities and to provide self-development opportunities to the underprivileged youths by:

Providing counselling to troubled youths
Providing wholesome activities (movies, board games)
Developing musical talents (jam sessions with guitars, keyboard and drums)
Providing a positive environment and human mentors/models
Instilling good habits (e.g. making payments for drinks and usage of equipment)
Helping with school work

We were surprised that Thomas Edison was quite good looking during his years then. He has a square-shaped face, vibrant blue-green eyes and a charming smile. He was a cute and anxious little boy who would plead with other adult he met to explain the workings of just about everything he encountered.

Edison became a telgraph reporter during his teens after he saved three year old Jimmie MacKenzie from being struck by a runaway train. Jimmie's father, station agent J.U MacKenzie of Mount Clemens, Michigan, was so grateful that he trained Edison as a telegraph reporter.

Edison became totally deaf in his left ear, and approximately 80% deaf on his right ear. he stated that the worst thing about this condition was that he was unable to enjoy beautiful sounds of singing birds.

Thomas Alva Edison (Feb. 11, 1847 - Oct. 18, 1931), was an American inventor, scientist and businessman who developed many devices that greatly influenced life around the world, including phonograph, the motion picture camera and a long lasting, practical electric light bulb.

Edison's greatest achievement was not the light bulb, the phonograph nor the electric generator, but it was the innovative process he used in his inventions.

He gave a future entrepreneurs a gift that will never be out dated, though some of his material inventions have been.

Phonograph

One of Edison's great invention developed in Menlo Park was the tin foil phonograph. This cylinder phonograph was the first machine that could record and reproduced sound created a sensation and brought Edison international fame.

Light Bulb

The light bulb profoundly changed human existence by illuminating the night and making it hospitable to a wide range of human activity. The electric light, one of the everyday conveniences that most affects our lives, was invented in 1879 by Thomas Edison. He was neither the first nor the only person trying to invent an incandescent light bulb.

Our Personal Response :)

Thomas Alva Edison inspired us on doing this article on him. he made us want to reach for our dreams and never, we mean NEVER give up on what we want to achieve. We were very impressed by his inventions and his ability to create something new and improved. He made us believe we could become a successful person by aiming our goal on something we love to do, which we are referring to our talents... Thanks to Thomas Edison, we believe we could change the world to a better and 'brighter' future... :)

Elvis, known the world over by his first name, is regarded as one of the most important figures of twentieth century popular culture. His talent, good looks, sensuality, charisma, and good humor endeared him to millions, as did the humility and human kindness he demonstrated throughout his life. He also honourably served his country in the U.S. Army.

Elvis was born on the 8^th January of 1935, to Vernon and Gladys Presley in a two-room house in Tupelo, Mississippi. Elvis had a twin brother named Jessie Garon but he was stillborn. Therefore, Elvis grew up as an only child. When Elvis was 13 years old, he and his parents moved to Memphis Tennessee in 1948.

Elvis then graduated from Humes High School there in 1953. Elvis’ musical influences were the pop and country music of the time, the gospel music he heard in church and at the all-night gospel sings he frequently attended, and the black R&B he absorbed on historic Beale Street as a Memphis teenager.

Oprah Gail Winfrey was born to unmarried parents. Her name in her birth certificate is Orpah, but due to her family's inability to pronounce her given name, they called her "Oprah" instead. She lived with her grandmother in rural poverty. She often wore potato sacks as dresses. Her grandmother taught her to read before the age of three, and regularly attended church. When she was six, she moved to Milwaukee to live with her mother, and she claims that she was sexually abused and her mother was not as encouraging and supportive as her grandmother had been.

Despite her less than encouraging home life, she skipped two grades, became teacher's pet and received a scholarship to Nicolet High School in Milwaukee. She ran away from home when she was 13, and unfortunately became pregnant at 14 , and even more unfortunately, her son died shortly after birth. Oprah miraculously soon got her life back on track after her frustrated mother sent her to live with her father Vernon in Nashville, Tennessee. She won Most Popular Girl, joined her high school speech team and won the Miss Black Tennessee beauty pagent at age 17. Working in local media, she was both the youngest news anchor and the first black female news anchor at Nashville's WLAC-TV. She went on to host the number one talk show in history, the Oprah Winfrey show. Not only that, she became number one on the Forbes list, and the richest person in entertainment. She has also starred in the Pulitzer-Prize winning movie, The Color Purple which was directed by Steven Spielberg. Oprah Winfrey also publishes two magazine, which are O, The Oprah Winfrey magazine and O At Home. She has also opened a school, the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls. Although there has been controversy at the school, with a member of the staff reportedly abusing the girls, Winfrey handled the scandal remarkably well, pulling no punches, revealing all the ugliness and promising to do a much better job of taking care of the girls.

Winfrey currently lives on “The Promised Land”, her 42-acre estate with ocean and mountain views in in Montecito, California.

Why we chose her

We chose Oprah Winfrey because she has proven that women can do anything, if not more, that men can do. She has shown that women are strong, capable of handling responsibilities and criticism thrown their way. Not only that, she has helped so many people around the world and inspired many others to be better people through her charity work, her school, her advice and her leadership. She has made many people see that you don't have to be born with a silver spoon in your mouth to achieve greatness. From a poverty stricken childhood, Oprah grew up to be one of the most influential women in the world. In conjunction with that, she has also shown people that we have to be strong in facing life's challenges. Even though Oprah grew in horrible circumstances, she still managed to become who she is today. Tamara partnered with Mr Jimmy Choo to start the ready to wear company and sourced factories in Italy to produce the shoes on a larger scale. Consequently, plans were made to open the first Jimmy Choo stand alone boutique and to develop the wholesale business throughout the fashion capitals of the world.

In April 2001, the expansion of jimmy Choo took a significant step forward wit the announcement of a new partnership with Equinox Luxury Holdings Ltd. Equinox acquired Mr Choo's share of the ready to wear business with Robert Bensoussan, Equinox's chief executive becoming CEO of Jimmy Choo. Within 3 years, the company opened twenty six new stores, (in addition to the existing four) and introduced both handbag and small leather goods collections.

This was followed by another dramatic move on 19th November 2004 with Hicks Muse (Europe) announcing the acquistion of a majority shareholding in Jimmy Choo, in a transaction valuing the company at 101 million.

With the ethos in both design and outlook remaining the same, Jimmy Choo is looking to expand which will result the opening of up to 50 stores by 2008.

MOST people know Datuk Jimmy Choo Yeang Keat as the world famous shoe designer whose clientele includes Hollywood celebrities and members of royalty.
Few are, however, aware of the humble beginnings of the Penang-born who only studied until Year Six and worked his way up from cleaning the toilet at a shoe factory in London and surviving on instant noodles.
Choo's love affair with shoes started when he was a child in the 1970s. He had to help at his father's shoemaker shop in Penang Road.
He studied at Shih Chung primary school up to Year Six and after that, he had to help his late father, Choo Kee Yin, at his shop where he learnt shoe-making skills.
It was during a holiday trip in London in the 1980s that Choo heard of Cortwainers College, now known as London College of Fashion. He decided to study footwear and shoe designing in the college.

His father paid for the college fees for the first year but for the remaining three years, he had to work part-time in restaurants and a shoe factory to pay for the fees and my living costs. He had to do odd jobs at the factory such as cleaning the toilet and sweeping the floor.

After graduating from college, Choo returned to Penang for a few years before going back to London to work in a larger shoe factory to gain more experience in pattern cutting and designing.
In 1986, Choo set up his own shoe workshop by renting an old hospital building in London.

However, the first four years were the hardest years for Choo as business was very poor. The turning point came when Choo's shoes were featured in popular fashion magazine, Vogue, in 1988.
Soon, his shoes were featured in more fashion magazines and Choo started to earnestly design shoes for couture fashion shows.

Though he was steadily gain- ing recognition in fashion maga- zines and fashion shows, he was not making money because he had very few clients. He was so poor that he could only afford to eat steamed chicken or curry chicken and sometimes, just instant noodles.
His reputation in producing elegant, feminine, custom made shoes reached the ears of the late Princess Diana in 1990 and she became his regular client. His business then started to flourish.
Today, Choo is an internationally renowned couture shoe designer and also a spokesman for the British Council, the ambassador for Footwear Education and a visiting professor at London College of Fashion.
Although he resides in London most of the time, he still considers himself a Penangite at heart.

Choo may have received many awards in recent years but the most meaningful to him was the recent DSPN award conferred by Penang Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas in conjunction with his birthday celebration on July 10.

Speaking at a press conference after attending a small cocktail reception at Rasa Sayang Hotel, Choo said he was very proud to be Malaysian, especially so, a Penangite.
"Being conferred this award is like a dream come true for me as it comes from Penang, where my roots are," he said.
Choo received the award from Abdul Rahman at the latter's newly refurbished official residence.

The reason we have chosen Datuk Jimmy Choo as our role model for this assigment is because of his great personality. His talent and creativity in shoe designing would not hae been discovered without his hardwork. We also admire his patience in going through obstacles to succeed his work which led him to fame and success as he is now. Despite being well known globally for his creativity in shoe fashion, Datuk Jimmy Choo is a humble and down to earth person.

Alfred Bernhard Nobel was born on the 21st of October 1833 in Stockholm, Sweden. He was a chemist, engineer, innovator, armaments manufacturer and last but certainly not least, he was the inventor of dynamite. His last will used a large amount of wealth for the Nobel Prize institutions.

After the bankruptcy in Alfred's family business, he returned to Sweden with his father. He devoted himself to studying explosives, especially to the safe manufacture and use of nitroglycerin. A large explosion occurred on 3 September 1864 at their factory in Heleneborg in Stockholm, killing five people, among them Alfred's brother Emil. Nobel continues on his experiments and soon form a company called Nitroglycerin AB in Stockholm, Sweden. He tries to make nitroglycerin safer to handle and finds it is safer by adding kieselguhr. This was called dynamite. Nobel establishes the British Dynamite Company which changed to Nobel's Explosives Company.

Nobel was a wealthy man at the age of 40.

Nobel Prize was placed in 1895 when Alfred Nobel wrote his will requirements, leaving most of his wealth for its establishment. Since 1901, the prize has been appreciating men and women for outstanding achievements in physics, chemistry, medicine, literature and peace to the world.

It is said Alfred Nobel never got married but had three lovers. The first love was a Russian girl named Alexandra who rejected his proposal. In 1876, Nobel had a secretary named Bertha Kinsky who left him to marry her old sweetheart, Baron Arthur Gundaccar von Suttner. However, she was still contacting him until his death. It is believed that she was a major influence in his decision to include a peace prize. Bertha Von Suttner was awarded the 1905 Nobel Peace prize, for her sincere peace activities. Nobel's long-lasting relationship with his third lover was with a flower girl named Sofie Hess from Vienna. This relationship lasted 18 years. They exchanged letters throughout their relationship. Nobel called her Madame Sofie Nobel in those letters. After his death, these letters were locked within the Nobel Institute in Stockholm and became the best kept secret at that time. They were released in 1955.

Although, Alfred Nobel did not get formal education, he knew six languages Swedish, French, Russian, English, German and Italian. He was also really good in English Literature. Beatrice Cenci, his book was printed while he was dying. Most of the contents were destroyed immediately after his death.

Nobel was elected a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1884, the same institution that would later select laureates for two of the Nobel prizes, and he received an honorary doctorate from Uppsala University in 1893.

Alfred Nobel died at the age of 63 on 10th December 1896. He died in Sanremo, Italy where he had a stroke that caused him his life. He was a man that tried to make up for his mistakes although he was constantly condemned.

In our humble opinion, Alfred Nobel was just an assignment that had to be done initially. However, after all the research we found out that Alfred Nobel wanted to prove something to the world.

Alfred Nobel became wealthy by creating explosives that were used in wars. These explosives killed many lives and so he felt a great deal of it was his fault. According to the research we made, he tried making things better by creating the Nobel Peace Prize to reward those who contribute to world peace. However, in our opinion after reading many articles, we feel Bertha von Suttner was the main reason the Nobel Peace Prize was created. We believe she persuaded him to create the Nobel Peace Prize to make up for his mistakes.

In conclusion, we chose Alfred Nobel because we want to show how some people try to prove something when they are at a lower rank. The bad part is they might not always do the right thing. Most importantly, people should know that money is not everything. There is more to life than being wealthy.

(born August 26, 1983 in Penang, Malaysia) is a Malaysian professional squash player. She is currently the World No. 1in women's squash (she is the first Asian woman to be ranked World No. 1 in the sport). She captured the World Open title in 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009, and the British Open title in 2005, 2006 and 2008.

Nicol David is the first squash player to have won the World Junior title twice (1999 and 2001 under the tutelage of Richard Glanfield. She remained the only female squash player to have achieved this, until Raneem El Weleilyemulated David's feat by winning her second World Junior Championship in 2007. Nicol moved inexorably up the senior rankings to become a fixture in the top flight. At a very young age, she has been invited to carry the Olympic torch for Malaysia during the build up to the Athens Olympics in 2004 and being appointed as UNDPNational Goodwill Ambassador for Malaysia.

Nicol David's other notable achievements include the Asian squash championship, which she won with a record of six times (in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008). She also held a 13-month, 51-match winning streak, from March 2006 to April 2007 when she finally lost to Natalie Grinham in the final of the 2007 Seoul Open. In today's standard of professional squash, which is regarded by many as being much more competitive than what it was decades ago, having a winning streak comparable to this is an achievement not easily obtainable.

Nicol has risen in name after her near total dominance of the game in recent years. The former Malaysian Prime MinisterDato' Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, a fellow Penangite, quipped once that David is "now more famous than me". She wins the Women's World Junior Squash Championships twice when she successfully defended the title in Penang, Malaysia in 2001 and becomes one of only 2 players in the history of squash to have achieved the feat. Order of merit

On June 7, 2008, Nicol David is honoured with the Order of Merit in conjunction with the birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin. She becomes the first recipient of the award which was established on June 26, 1975. This award is limited to 10 recipients who have made significant contributions in arts, science and humanity.

Datukship

On July 12, 2008, Nicol is among 497 people honoured in conjunction with the 70th birthday of the Penang Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas. Nicol is among 28 people who receive the Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (DSPN), which carries the title "Datuk", making her the youngest person ever to be conferred Datukship in Malaysia.

In 1999, Nicol begins to win major junior tournaments, including the British Junior Open (Under 17 Champion), the Asian Junior Champion for both individual and team events, the German Junior Open (Under 19, Champion , the SEA Games (Champion in the Senior and Team categories) and the British Junior Open Champion in the Under 19 category. Nicol's biggest win, however, is the Women's World Junior Championships, played in Antwerp. It takes just half an hour for the then 15-year-old Malaysian schoolgirl to confirm the world junior champion status that was prophesied for her for many years when she beat compatriot Leong Siu Lynn 9–5, 9–3 and 9–2 in the final of the women's individual event to become the youngest ever winner of the title. Nicol reached the quarterfinals of the previous World Junior Championships in August 1997 in Brazil, as a thirteen-year-old - and has since claimed both the Asian junior and senior titles, as well as the gold medal in the Asian Games in December 1998.

2000

Nicol joins WISPA in 2000 and quickly wins her first WISPA tour title. Nicol's first WISPA tournament victory comes in February, when she defeats Salma Shabana in the final of the Savcor Finnish Open with a score of 9–1, 9–0 and 9–5. Within a month, Hotel Equatorial announces its two year worldwide sponsorship for her. Nicol also wins a sponsorship on the WISPA tour by Dunlop squash.

2001

In 2001, Nicol, who has played under Dunlop Sport sponsorship for most of her junior career and burgeoning WISPA career, signs a two-year deal to play with Head rackets with major local conglomerate Mulpha Sports.In July, Nicol did what everybody expected her to do all along - she wins the World Junior title for a second time. She does it with an ease that surprises everybody. She earns her second title by easily thumping Omneya Abdel Kawy in just 17 minutes with a score of 9–2, 9–4 and 9–2 in the final.

2002

2002 is the year where Nicol wins a surprise medal in the Commonwealth Games. Nicol, together with her mixed double event partner Ong Beng Hee, wins a historic silver medal for Malaysia after losing to Glen Wilson and Leilani Rorani in the final. Earlier in the year, Nicol beats Ellen Petersen of Denmarkwith a score of 9–2, 9–7, 8–10, 9–4 to win the second Kuala Lumpur Open title of her career.

2003

2003 proves to be a vital year in Nicol's career even though she doesn't manage to win a title. Nicol is a losing finalist twice this year, losing to the more experienced Cassie Jackman on her very own homeground and then to Linda Elriani in the Monte Carlo Classic in November. The most outstanding feat of the year is when she remarkably makes it to the semifinal of the World Open in Hong Kong. She ends up losing to Cassie Jackman with a score of 9–6, 9–3, 9–4 in the final's .

2004

Again, Nicol fails to win any title. Her best achievements of the year are getting into the final of both the Kuala Lumpur Open and the Malaysian Open. Nicol then starts to progress in the very last month of the year by reaching the final of the Shanghai WISPA WorldStars Championship and the semi-finals of the World Open, to rise two places to no. 4 in the January 2005 WISPA rankings.

2005

Malaysian squash star Nicol David is proving that everything she touches turns to gold. Defeated only twice this year, the 21-year-old from Penang returns to her home country in July after winning the gold medal in the World Open in Germany to become the youngest squash world champion ever. She then creates history by becoming the first local player to win the Women's CIMB Malaysian Open Squash Championship title in the prestigious event’s 31-year history. In October, Nicol proves that her success in the World Open and in the Malaysian Open was not a fake by becoming the first Malaysian to win a British Open title, and the first Asian to win the women's crown, when she beats Australia's Natalie Grinham in the women's final in straight games in 55 minutes. After winning this year's British Open and World Open within two months against the odds, she clinches next year's world number one ranking for the first time. Nicol is voted in overwhelming fashion by her fellow members of the Women's International Squash Players Association as the WISPA Player of The Year 2005.

2006

Nicol starts the year on a low, she loses twice to Vanessa Atkinson in February, in the Apawamis Open and in the Kuala Lumpur Open, both in the final. But then she bounces back to win a whopping six titles that include the tour Platinum series tournament, the Hong Kong Open. Nicol then defends her title on November 25, 2006, at the historic Ulster Hall in Belfast by beating Natalie Grinhamin the final that is dubbed to be one of the greatest in the Women's World Open history. She becomes the first Malaysian athlete to win a world championship title for the 2nd consecutive time, and the fourth person in history to retain the World Open Squash Championship. Nicol tops the December WISPA ranking with a points average of almost twice that of her nearest rival, Rachael Grinham.

2007

Nicol manages to capture another six titles in the early months of the year before eventually going down to a rare defeat in the final of the British Open to Australian Rachael Grinham in a gruelling five set final lasting 87 minutes.^[45] A month later, again Nicol unexpectedly fails to defend her World Open title when she stumbles in the second round to lose to Shelley Kitchen with a score of 0–9, 1–9, 9–2, 9–3 and 6–9 in 69 minutes. 2008: Perfect WISPA Year: Ten Tour Titles – And Unbeaten! Nicol David has completed her most successful year to date – retaining her Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Open title for the third successive year in November to bring her 2008 WISPA World Tour title total to ten, and extending her unbeaten Tour record since October 2007 to 53 matches. Furthermore, Nicol celebrated her second full calendar year as world number one in the December Women's World Squash Rankings – bringing her reign at the top of women’s squash to 32 months. With an unprecedented lead over her nearest rival, Nicol David tops the January 2009 Women's World Squash Rankings, published on 1 January 2009 by the Women's International Squash Players' Association (WISPA) – thus moving into her 30th successive month as the world’s number one player. Nicol heads an unchanged top four, with Natalie Grinham (Netherlands) at two; her older sister Rachael Grinham (Australia) in third place; and Natalie Grainger, of the USA, at number four.In her first tournament of the year, the Kuala Lumpur Open, Nicol's 17-month, 56-match winning run is brought to an end when she loses to Natalie Grainger in the final.After the loss, Nicol made a strong comeback by capturing the inaugural Cayman Islands Open. She manages to avenge her loss to Grainger early in the year by beating her 11–8, 11-6 and 11–5 in the final. It is her 35th tour crown and 50th appearance in a WISPA Tour final. A week later, Nicol goes on to win her second title of the year by again dispatching Grainger, this time in four sets.
Within a month after winning the Texas Open title, Nicol captures her second Seoul City Open crown by beating Jenny Duncalf in four sets. Months later, she retains her World Games women's singles title with a win over her arch rival Natalie Grinham of the Netherlands in straight sets. A week later, on the first day of August, Nicol picks up her fifth consecutive Malaysian Open title, winning 11–6, 11–8, 9–11, 11–7 in a 60-minute tussle against 25 year-old Londoner, Alison Waters. Nicol, thus, becomes the first player to win five Malaysian Open titles in a row since its inception in 1975.
Dominating on the squash courts, Nicol beat out Natalie Grinham to win her third consecutive Singapore Masters championship—and her third title within a month. She overcome Natalie in three sets with a score of 11–9, 11–8 and 11–9 for her fifth WISPA title of the year. Nicol then celebrates another milestone in her squash career by moving into her 41st month as world number one in the September Women's World Rankings thus surpassing her mentor Sarah Fitz-Gerald as the player with the third longest ever reign at the top of the women's rankings. Days after the record breaking feat, Nicol unexpectedly lost to Madeline Perry in the British Open quarter-final in 5 sets match that lasts in 76 minutes but bounces back in style by winning the World Open Championship for a record fourth time a few weeks later when she beats her arch rival Natalie Grinham in the final. Nicol unexpectedly ends the year on a low when she lost in the semis to Jenny Duncalf in both the Qatar Classic and the US Open.

Our group's topic is about Nancy Bakhshy. Most of you may not know her as she is not someone that we commonly speak of. So, to introduce to you who Nancy Bakhshy is do read this description about her.

Nancy Bakhshy was born in Tehran to Turkish parents. She was raised in the traditions of Turkish and Persian cultures. At her mother's dance and aerobics studio, she was schooled in Turkish and Persian dancing styles. Nancy worked her was up, firt as a student, then as an assistant until finally she was offered her own classes at the age of 20.

She always fills in cultural elements that she waves into her choreographies. Her solos and group performances are favouries among students and audience as it is lively and fun to watch. Her classes also gesture heavily to culture, folklore and party styles from the Middle East.

In Malaysia, Nancy is a true pioneer of this wonderful art form. She was the first teacher to teach belly dance in November 2002. Her program was met with much enthusiasm as women flocked to this new dance sensation. Soon she found herself in high demand in the fledgling K.L. belly dance community - with ten classes open she could barely keep up with the demand.

But Nancy didn't stop there. She continues to act as the driving force promote Belly Dance in Malaysia, but she is also a cultural liaison and a promoter of Persian music and culture. Nancy's brother Ali is an accomplished Persian musician, she has brought him to Malaysia twice to perform to thrilled audiences of Middle Eastern, Malaysian, and Western backgrounds. No matter what the culture, those who love the complex percussion patterns that his band serves up dance into the night at Nancy's lively events. Nancy and Ali make quite a pair and have garnered extensive publicity in this city.

Why do we admire Nancy Bakhshy?

It is because she has the courage to introduce something new to the people of our beautiful country, Malaysia. She brought us more closer to the Middle East cultures. Thank you, Nancy Bakhshy. Bill Gates`s full name is William Henry (Bill) Gates III. He was born on the 28th October 1955.he and his 2 sisters grew up in Seattle. William Henry Gates II , their father is a Seattle attorney. Their late mother , Mary Gates was a teacher in University of Washington and the chairwoman of United Way International. Bill attended public elementary school before moving to the private Lakeside School in North Seattle.

There was where he began a career in personal computer software , programming computers at the age of 13.1973,Bill Gates entered Harvard University as a freshman, where he lived down the hall from Steve Balimer ,who is currently the Microsoft president .At Harvard , he devolopeda version of the programming language BASIC for the first microcomputer – MITS Altair. BASIC was first developed by Thomas Kurtz and John Kemeny at Dartmouth Collage in the mid – 1960s.

In junior year Bill dropped out of Harvard to give his full attention on Microsoft,a company he started in 1975 with boyhood friend Paul Allen.Guided by his believes he is actively involved in key management and strategic decision at Microsoft.His tme is devoted to meeting costomes and staying in contact with Microsoft employees around the world .Under Bill`s leadership Microsoft`s misson is continuosly to advance and improve software technology.

Microsoft invests 2.6 billion for research and development .1996,Bill wrote The Road Ahead .Co-authored by Nathan Myhrvoid, Micrisoft`s chief technology officer and Peter Rinearson,The Road Ahead got the no.1 spot on the New York Times bestseller list for 7 weeks and remained on the list for a total of 18 weeks .

Bill & Melinda French Gates got married on the 1 January 1994.They have 3 children. On the 2nd March 2005 Bill Gates knighted by Queen Elizabeth IIfor his contribution to the British economy .He was titled Knight Commender of the Order of the British Empire.He is not allowed to call himself Sir because of his USA Citizenship but may fix his name with KBE.

He got married to Belinda French Gates on 1st January 1994.They have now three children, one is Jennifer Katharine Gates, who was born in 1996; and a son Rory John Gates, born in 1999 and a daughter, Phoebe Adelle Gates, born in 2002.

Personal respond : We admired Mr Bill Gates because of his achievements he succeeded at a very young age, in his early 20s. He even sacrified his collage days in order to give his full commitment to Microsoft. Most of the time , he tried to think of new ideas to improve the software that he invented .
